The term "Diagnosis" has three different interpretations and situations:
- Medical diagnosis, often of a natural cause.
- Societal diagnosis, which is man-made.
- Self diagnosis, also man-made.
No matter the situation, "Diagnosis" tends to have a negative connotation associated with it, and whatever the results of the diagnosis are, people are often fearful of how others will act/view them after the results are shared or discussed.
- You may be diagnosed with cancer by the doctors, and you feel like you have no hope left in the world.
- You may be diagnosed as fat or plus-sized by your peers or the sizing of a clothing company, so you develop a mindset that you are not beautiful.
- You may diagnose yourself, telling yourself that you aren't good enough, and you constantly live in sadness due to continual comparison of yourself to others.
Whatever your diagnosis may be, it's probably a burden in your everyday life, but it doesn't have to be.
My Diagnosis
- Medically, I am currently living with Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome, Insulin Resistance, and Hashimoto's Disease. On a side-note, from 8th grade until 11th grade, I experienced daily, intense headaches, and the occasional migraine,
- Socially, I feel pressured to be skinnier, as the numbers and sizing of my clothes are way beyond the socially "acceptable" norm, and I have stretch marks all over my lower body.
- Individually, I am insecure in many ways, but my lack of trust and my self-image issues from being cheated on are the largest, most frequent struggles.
Because of these labels and diagnoses, I get so caught up in the negative, that I forget to see the positive, good things which I have to be thankful for. None of us should judge ourselves by our diagnoses because we are so much more than that, and we shouldn't let others judge us either. Unfortunately, that is much easier said than done, but you have to take the first step in order to travel a distance, and hopefully, this blog can be one of the steps in your journey to being more than just a diagnosis.
